Macro Factors & Risk-Premia-Based Strategy Performance
A number of alternative (risk-premia-based) strategies - including trend-following, discretionary macro and carry - have performed poorly in the decade following the Great Financial Crisis (but pre-COVID). This article considers why, finding that macro-economic factors are partly responsible. It also notes some exceptions - i.e., strategies whose performance has held up.
